Norris Edges Out Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver narrowly beat team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the points lead from Piastri by just one point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn leading to the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's car third fastest, over half a second off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
